I was looking for an indoor plant that is easily maintainable and gives a shiny look. Then one day, I found a plant in a corner of a shopping mall, and eventually, I thought that the plant was artificial. But my friend corrected me and told me that the plant is called the ZZ plant. I was so fascinated by the plant that I bought the plant within a few days. After planting the ZZ indoor plant, I thought it would be great to share my story with the ZZ plant if this helps any indoor plant lover.
What Is a ZZ Plant?
The ZZ plant or Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is a tropical perennial flowering plant that belongs to the Araceae family. This plant is commonly found in eastern Africa including southern Kenya and northeastern South Africa. This is the information that I have come to know from the internet. Now, let’s take a look at the plant from my eyesight. The ZZ plant has elegant stems that are thick at the bottom and then narrow to a point at the top. The stems consist of deep green oval-shaped leaves. Due to the shiny and waxy coating of the leaves’ surface, it seems like plastic, and you make think that this is a fake plant.
My Experience in Growing ZZ Plants:
ZZ plants require very little maintenance, and you can easily grow these plants in your indoors with exceptionally low light. As this plant can grow very well in indirect light, you don’t need to put the plant beside the window of your room. I keep this plant beside my working desk, and it gives me a fresh feeling. It is better to avoid direct sunlight, otherwise, you will find the leavers are becoming curly and yellow. Also, you don’t need to worry about watering the plant, because this plant preserves water in the soil. You only need to water the ZZ plant every couple of weeks. Even though the ZZ plant gives you a shiny look, the dust can make the leaves look dull over a certain period of time. However, you should clean the leaves roughly to avoid any type of damage. To restore the shiny look of the leaves, you can carefully and softly wipe the dust away.
I am having a great experience planting the ZZ plant because this plant neither takes much fertilizer nor even light and water. So, you can also grow ZZ indoor plants effortlessly and have a graceful indoor look.
